It's not every day that someone decides to donate a kidney to a loved one, but for our manager Sabrina, it was a decision made without hesitation. Her sister April has been a patient of our practice for a long time and we've been following her case closely. April has albinism and type 2 diabetes, which played a major role in her kidney failure. She's a young mother of six children who she recently adopted as a foster mom, and she has a lot of life left to live.
Today, we're starting the process to see if Sabrina and April are a match for the kidney transplant. Bloodwork, here we go. It's going to be a long journey, but we're excited to share our stories with you and bring awareness to the effects of diabetes and the benefits of organ donation.
April's case is unique and the medical process will be a little bit more difficult due to her albinism, but we're hopeful that the transplant will be successful. The hope is that it will give April a second chance at living a normal life, and we'll be there every step of the way to support her.
Follow us on this journey as we share updates, challenges and the emotional journey of becoming a donor. We want to bring awareness to the importance of organ donation and show how it can change someone's life.
